ALVARO & HOLLY // LOWER HAIGHT
“Working with Naya was a dream.”
From Alvaro & Holly: “We had a thoroughly positive experience commissioning this piece. Working with Naya was a dream. We were filling out our main living room area, which has three large bay windows, so it gets a lot of light. We wanted to commission a piece that would be a centerpiece, but would also make the entire room gel. In our vision consultation, we discussed the color palette of the room and how we wanted something slightly edgy / non-traditional. Naya was able to immediately grabbed on to that and get us excited about an envisioned feel for the piece. We absolutely love the result. It is so special to have it created through this process. We highly recommend working with Naya. It is highly rewarding, exciting, and fun.
From Naya: “I loved working on this piece and love the way it turned out. I sensed a desire for retro-futurism from Alvaro and Holly and was able to incorporate elements of that into a more geometric abstraction that I knew would fit nicely with the layout of the room. Once when we got it up and the sun hit it, I knew we had landed on something special.”
ABOUT NAYA
Originally from Texas, Naya (she or they pronouns) is most at home under big skies, in desert heat, or near the mist of the ocean. Artistically, Naya draws inspiration from both their lived experiences as a queer and trans/non-binary creative as well as from external forces like an awe for the power of nature and the supernatural directional forces of instinct. Naya sees the world both as it is and how it has the potential to be. She believes in letting color do much of the work, which often leads to abstract and geometric expression. Naya lives in Bernal Heights and has been living and practicing in the Bay Area since 2018.
